Kano renames university after Sule Maitama


The Northwest university in Kano has been renamed to Yusuf Maitama Sule university by the Kano state government.

The Northwest University is one if the two-state owned Universities established by the former governor,Rabiu kwankwaso's administration.

Malam Mohammed Garba,the state commissioner of information made this known at a news conference on Thursday.

He said the decision was taken during the extraordinary meeting of the state executive council.

He also said that the council endorsed the renaming of the university inorder to immortalise Sule Maitama,the elder statesman for his great influence on kano,North and Nigeria as a whole.

He proceeded to say that the council also endorsed the renaming of "Dawaki Road" where Maitama lived to "Yusuf Maitama Sule Road".

And also the Yusuf Maitama Sule link road had been renamed to Jafaru Danmallam link road.

The decisions were reached after extensive deliberations at the council which included people's opinion from within and outside the state for the government to honour Maitama since his demise.

The Gadnuje administration is committed to honour sons and daughters who lay down theor lives for the development of the state,He said.
