About N5m is being generated from waste recycling in UNILAG


About N5m is being generated from waste recycling in the University of Lagos(UNILAG) said Mrs. Sade Nubi,the Senior Environmental Engineer of the University of Lagos.

She made this Known in a Interview with NAN in Cape Coast,Ghana at the proceeding African Cleanup Conference.

She also said the Institution gathers about 32.2 tons of wastes per month from its 97,000 population,Visitors included.

They consider the act of recycling helpful in two ways
Keeping the School Environment clean and
Generating revenue from it

Mrs. Nubi revealed that they were reluctant to go into recycling initially due to Insufficient funding but they still managed to go into it.

She said they've been able to create Employment and another source of Income for the Institution.

She further elaborated that they have been able to recycle as much as 23tons of wastes per month and they have recycling companies and partners who comes to buy their wastes.

Estimates shows that we have been able to generate between N4m to N5m since the inception of the initiative and up to 50 workers have been employed as workers at the sorting center of the institution.

She finally said that the Institution is so much ready to collaborate with any other institutions on the project, to provide more revenue and employment and also add value to the educational sector.
