Manchester united keen to sign jan oblak

Manchester United remain in pole position to sign Atletico Madrid keeper Jan Oblak this summer, according to reports.

The 24-year-old has been reportedly pin-pointed as a potential replacement for David de Gea if the Spaniard moves to Real Madrid.

Oblak, who won La Liga’s best goalkeeper award for the second consecutive season, has a release clause of £85m and signed a new contract with the club last season.

And according to the Mirror‘s Ciaran Kelly, Man United are in pole position to sign the Slovenian international – despite Atletico’s failed appeal against a transfer ban which means they cannot register new players until January 2018 – after making contact with his representatives in March.

The report also states that the move will only go ahead if De Gea does end up completing a move to the Bernabeu this summer – something that doesn’t, at least at this point, seem likely after it was reported that the prospect of Champions League football next season has left the Spaniard ‘in no rush’ to move away from Old Trafford. Madrid, in turn, are reportedly uninterested in signing De Gea, who has a release clause of £51.6m.

Then again, everything can rapidly change during the transfer period, and having Oblak lined up in the event of De Gea’s departure is an admirably pragmatic move from Mourinho.
