Basketball: I will back incoming NBBF board for basketball development — Ahmedu

The President of FIBA Africa Zone 3, retired Col. Samuel Ahmedu, says his wealth of international experience and connections will be brought to bear when the new Nigeria Basketball Federation is sworn in June.

Ahmedu told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that he would continue to play his role in the development of basketball in the country and use his office to attract more grants for the federation.

The grants, he said, would help in synchronising the federation’s activities with that FIBA, the basketball world governing body.

The former chairman of NBBF’s Technical Committee confirmed this in a recorded video chat sent through his Facebook page on Friday.

He lamented that his desire to always say the truth at all times had set him against some strong forces in the Nigerian basketball circle.

Ahmedu said that the recent claims of always being against incumbent presidents as pure fallacy and misplaced opinions by some elements in the basketball family who were bent on deceiving people.

Finally, he also spoke about his eligibility to contest for the soon to the vacant seat of the Nigeria Basketball Federation as electoral forms go on sale.

NAN reports that the Zonal, Vice-Presidential and Presidential aspirant at the forthcoming sports federations’ elections on May 30 in Abuja, Ahmedu has already qualified as a member of the new NBBF board.

This is due to his position as the most senior member of the board.
