[SPORT NEWS]Man United transfer plans in jeopardy because of Jorge Mendes and Diego Costa

The Chelsea striker, 28, is a target for clubs in the Chinese Super League and his agent Jorge Mendes is out there for talks.

Mendes sat down with the chairman of Tianjin Quanjian to discuss a possible £30m-a-year deal yesterday.

Tianjian have one space for a foreign player and they want a world-class player to fill that gap.

But Mendes' commitments in China with Costa have slowed down United's transfer business.
The Portuguese super-agent, who also represents Jose Mourinho, is in talks with United over a number of deals.

Mendes is the agent of Victor Lindelof, who United were keen on signing as soon as they could to replace Eric Bailly. The Ivory Coast international is out at the African Nations Cup.

Mendes also takes care of Jose Fonte, who could leave Southampton to replace Lindelof at Benfica.

If that deal got done Benfica would then be likely to allow Lindelof to leave. United, meanwhile, have no Fonte interest.

And Real Madrid star James Rodriguez is also a client of Mendes.

It's understood the 25-year-old Colombian superstar wants to play under Mourinho, and discussions have already been held with chief executive Ed Woodward.

But none of these deals have progressed as quickly as United would have liked and the club still haven't added to their squad this transfer window.
