[SPORT NEWS]Crouch Signs Extension at Stoke City Until 2018 – Two Goals Off “100

Crouch or “Crouchy” as some fans like to call him has played for numerous clubs around England, even getting loaned out to Swedish club IFK Hasselholm back in the year 2000. He was most well known for his times spent at Liverpool, Portsmouth, Tottenham and Aston Villa. He also featured impressive spells at Southampton, Norwich and Queens Park Rangers.

At the age of 35 Crouch isn’t getting any younger but he still has the crucial ability to win a header, control the ball and wait for the pass to play. These combination of abilities aren’t entirely that common in the modern day game, especially at such a high level.

So what is it most people like about Crouch? The fact he can finish with his feet or his record-breaking headers. Or the fact he’s such an honest player? But most of us know he’s a player that relishes his time on the pitch. Crouch has always put in 110% for every club he has played for. He sees a lofted ball and will attempt to win the header. He even helps out in defence, usually on corner set pieces he can sometimes be seen heading the ball out of the box from a defended cross.

Not only has Crouch impressed successively for clubs he has played for but also for his country as well. As mentioned he’s known for his goal scoring record, his international record speaks for itself. An incredible 22 goals in 42 games for England, averaging just under a goal every two games. His England career span from 2005-2010 including playing alongside the likes of Wayne Rooney, forming a striking partnership.
Over the years Crouch has made over 400 Premier League appearances and over 50 assists. He is currently on 98 Premier League goals meaning if he gets another 2 goals he would be the 26th player to join the “100 Club”.

Since joining Stoke for £10M in the 2011-12 season, Crouch has gone on to score 49 times for “The Potters”. By the end of the season, two milestones could be reached by the prolific centre-forward. Reaching his 50th goal for Stoke City and also getting his 100th Premier League goal.

Crouch isn’t just known for his success on the pitch but also for his cameo roles on television. Appearing in sketches with Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, in Comic Relief and Sport Relief campaigns. Also joining pundits on panel shows such as “A League Of Their Own” and “A Question of Sport”.

In the current season, Crouch was concerned about his future as he wasn’t getting any time on the pitch. He stated that he wanted to play football and therefore requested he might want a transfer in January 2017. This all changed by the end of December as he was picked to start against his former side Liverpool and also scored very recently against Chelsea and Watford.

With the recent form scoring twice in two games, Crouch felt he found his rhythm again. He then signed an extension on January 9th to keep him at Stoke until 2018. With the African Cup of Nations coming up, Crouch should have more time on the pitch as Mame Biram Diouf (Senegal), Wilfried Bony (Ivory Coast), and Ramadan Sobhi (Egypt) will be away on international duties.

A great role model for youngsters, Peter Crouch inspires many young fans and the older ones too. He will want to enjoy his final years and from a neutral, I think many will agree he has had a great career so far.
